This is a beautiful romantic song, easy to perform. It is extracted from the great oratorio of 1896: “Scènes de la Saga du Roi Olaf,” intended to be played by sopranos, tenors, basses, choirs and orchestras. It met with small success, nothing more. Pompous songs were fashionable by the end of the 17th century. Everybody knows “Pomp and Circumstance” which became like a British national anthem.
