Pierre PINCEMAILLE is one of the most prominent french organists.
After having obtained five First Prizes from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de PARIS and five Organ International Prizes, Pierre Pincemaille was appointed in November 1987 organist of the great organ of the Cathedral of Saint-Denis, the first instrument built in 1840 by Aristide Cavaillé-Coll, the famous 19th century organ builder.
Pursuing an international career as a concertist, Pierre Pincemaille played under the direction of renowned conductors: Mstislav Rostropovitch, Myung-Whun Chung, Riccardo Muti, Charles Dutoit, John Nelson.
An incontestable virtuoso, Pierre Pincemaille displays an additional talent for giving color to each of his recitals: by the magic of his registrations, he is able to fully exploit the many sounds of an organ, leaving his audience to discover new and unsuspected sonorities.
His public is even more fascinated by the masterful improvisations with which he traditionally finishes his concerts. In this art form, Pierre Pincemaille is recognized as having unsurpassable talent.
Pierre Pincemaille has teached Harmony at the Conservatoire National Superieur de Musique de PARIS. He has also teached Improvisation at the Organ at the Conservatoire de Saint-Maur-des-Fosses, near Paris. For twelve years, he has trained a whole generation of young improvisers, French and foreign, who have distinguished themselves in international competitions.
Pierre Pincemaille is Chevalier des Palmes Académiques, Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres, and Chevalier de l’Ordre de Saint-Grégoire-le-Grand.
