Chansons grises, a beautiful collection of poems by Paul Verlaine set to music by Reynaldo Hahn, and arranged here for mixed-voice choir by Patrick RUTGÉ:

The Chansons grises are the first of seven important song cycles by Reynaldo Hahn.
They hold a remarkable place in the composer's musical output: while bringing together in a coherent literary manner seven poems by Paul Verlaine that do not belong to the same collection, they are distinguished by a musical unity that proves the artistic maturity and technical mastery of a young composer only seventeen years old.
It was while performing Les Chansons grises at Mme Lemaire's in the spring of 1894 that Reynaldo Hahn met Marcel Proust, who was also invited to this musical reception.

Patrick Rutgé tells us:

"A musical madeleine, all in delicate flavors and subtle aromas.
These arrangements are both a tribute/sharing for Reynaldo Hahn's compositional work and the imprint of a slightly nostalgic memory of strong musical impressions aroused by my first singing teacher with such fine diction and musicality in this repertoire.
The search for lost time, perhaps... "
