Philibert Jambe De Fer lived in Lyonand he was published by great publishers in the middle of the 16th century. He essentially composed religious polyphonic songs and spiritual songs. However, he is mostly known for his Épitomé Musical. This is one of the only French tracts of clearly dealing with the musical instruments of the 16th century. It is a simple polyphony in note-against-note writing. The lyrics have to be perfectly understood by the choristers and the listeners. Psalm 42 is sung for the matins in the Feast of Corpus Christi and for funeral liturgies. Goudimel composed another version of this psalm based on the text of Theodore Beza.
