This is a popular Christmas carol from 1575. Lyrics of the verses were set to the music of “Une jeune fillette,” it was a very famous pavan from Renaissance. “Monodie chez Chardavoine” is published in 1576 in the collection “Recueil des plus belles et excellentes chansons en forme de voix de ville”). Many arrangements were made by arrangers like Du Caurroy, Bésard and Phalèse. There were also versions like fantasias and sonatas which were composed for lutes and keyboards until the end of the 17th century. There is also a version with the lyrics of “Chanson spirituelle.”
