“Piae cantiones ecclesiasticae” is a collection of religious songs composed at the beginning of the century by German musicians. They wanted to convey an unfailing faith with melodies easy to sing and to memorize. “Gaudete Christus est natus” and the dynamic text about Christmas joy belong to the popular style. It was published in 1582. A version arranged for three mixed or equal voices is also available.
