Gabriel Fauré, born in Pamiers (Ariège) on May 12, 1845 and died in Paris on November 4, 1924, is a French pianist, organist and composer.
Pupil of Saint-Saëns and Gustave Lefèvre at the Niedermeyer School in Paris, he was first master of chapel at the Madeleine church in Paris. He later assumed the duties of organist and titular organist of the great organ. He was then appointed professor of composition at the Paris Conservatoire, and then director of the establishment from 1905 to 1920.
He is one of the greatest French composers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
