This is a Gilbert Bécaud song which has stood the test of time. The rigorous beat creates the impression of waltz tune, so you should not insist on that side of the melody. However, each part has a fragment of it, and you must be careful it’s not hidden by counter part especially if a soprano is singing. If the spoken part is performed by a male soloist for the second verse, it will glorify the Tyrolienne interlude.
