This the 13th extract from the Divine Liturgy of Saint John Chrysostome, op. 41. This is a choral song composed on June 1879 in Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv’s church by Tchaïkovski for Saint John Chrysostome’s service. It was completely new for Russian church music. Indeed, it was forbidden to publish a new composition based on a sacred text without the consent of the Royal Court Chapel. But Tchaïkovski and Jurgensov achieved to publish it anyway. Then, Tchaïkovki was ordered other works by the czar. After that, Russian composers were freer to publish this type of music. The Divine Liturgy of Saint John Chrysostome is constituted of psalms, hymns, responds, Sundays’ orations and of Eucharist celebration. It is written in Slavonic. This extract is one of the most easy parts of the work; it can be performed by every choir.
