A motet for the season of Pentecost; the text is taken from the First Vespers of the Feast of Corpus Christi. This work is intended for very accomplished vocal ensembles singing in equal parts.

Pierre Villette was born in Duclair (Seine-Maritime) in 1926. He studied first at the Rouen Cathedral Choir School (1932–41) and then at the Paris National Conservatoire of Music (1941–1949), where he was taught by the brothers Jean and Noël Gallon, Henri Busser, Félix Passerone, Louis Fourestier and Norbert Dufourcq. In 1949, he was awarded the Second Grand Prix de Rome for musical composition and became director of the Besançon Conservatoire (1957–1966) and the Aix-en-Provence Conservatoire (1967–1990). He has been honorary president of the National Association of Conservatoire Directors since 1977. In addition to his cantata *La Résurrection de Lazare* (Rome Competition, 1949), he has written numerous works for various orchestral ensembles, a mass and many motets for choir. In November 1995, he completed his Opus 80, *Panis Angelicum*, his 18th motet. Pierre Villette, true to French tradition, seeks to make his own contribution to the legacy of his predecessors. Defying fashions and cliques, he sets the musical scene through harmony, which he then enriches with nuances and orchestration. Rhythm then comes into play to anchor his message within the musical tempo. Finally, the melody – an essential element of the musical discourse – emerges directly from the harmonic foundation to convey the composer’s authentic vision.
