Louis Durey was part of “Les Six” with Darius Milhaud, Arthur Honegger, Francis Poulenc, Germaine Taillefer and Georges Auric. His chamber music works and vocal pieces are his best composing works. He was a secretary general of Fédération Musicale Populaire from 1937 to 1956 and of Association Française des Musiciens Progressistes.
Yves Lacôte wrote a collection of 12 poems about months of the year entitled “Calendrier des enfants” which was published in 1936 by the Atelier du Père Castor — Flammarion. Louis Durey set three of these poems to music (“Avril,” “Mai,” “Juin”) and arranged it for two equal voices and piano in 1937. A handwritten version for string orchestras is expected.
