This is an extract from Michel Berger’s French and Quebec French rock opera musical Starmania made famous by Fabienne Thiebault. Pierre-Gérard Verny wrote a 3-part arrangement easily performed and massively enjoyed. As it only needs sopranos altos and baritones, choirs with few men can perform it with perfect balance anyway. As it perfectly fits the original style, Starmaniacs will love it. Let’s give a quick look at the background: between 1976 and 1977, Michel Berger and Luc Plamondon wrote Starmania’s lyrics and music and published it on a CD performed by Daniel Balavoine, Claude Dubois, Diane Dufresne, France Gall, René Joly, Fabienne Thiebault, Nanette Workman and Eric Esteve. It was put on stage by Tom O’Horgan in 1979; the musical was performed by singers of the CD in The Palais des Congrès, Paris. Between 1988 and 1989, Michel Berger and Luc Plamondon created a new version of Starmania. It was performed in Théâtre de Paris then in Théâtre Mariny during two seasons. Maurane, Wenta, Renaud Hantson, Sabrina, Lory, Martine Saint Clair, Norman Groulx, Richard Groulx and Luc Lafitte gave a fresh performance of characters. There was a new production in 1993 staged by Lewis Furey in Théâtre Mogador, Paris every Friday evening. It was a transposition of Tim Rice’s English version. This last version won the best show of the year 1993 in Victoires de la Musique. It found great success in Théâtre Mogador and Canada. Other productions were created, all being successful.
