Sarabande
This song is extracted from “Suite pour clavecin n. 11.” Dominique Dumont arranged for three mixed voices and added two jazz variations. It can be played for concerts or choral meetings. Dominique Dumont was born in 1956. He is an associate professor in musical education and choral singing. He teaches at Paul Valéry secondary school and Guillaume Apollinaire highschool in Thiais. He learnt how to play the organ. He studied with Michel Chapuis and Odile Bailleux. He was graduated from the Schola Cantorum supervised by Jean Boyer. Dominique Dumont’s musical tastes are eclectic. His master’s degree in musicology was dedicated to the jazz composer André Hodeir. Supervised by Rémi Stricker, he wrote his thesis about Franz Liszt’s oratorio “Christus” for esthetics at the conservatory. His favorite activity is choral conducting.

Scarborough fair
“Scarborough Fair” is a traditional English song from the end of the Middle Ages made famous in the 60s by Simon & Garfunkel. Scaraborough was an important port where a trade fair took place for 45 days from August, 15th. There were also some shows.
The song is about a man who asks the woman impossible things just to be sure she loves him. The text is full of irony and mockery, but the symbolism of plants like thyme and rosemary which connect them both to their respective values. It helps them to come together again. Jean-Paul Joly made a simple arrangement to suit the beautiful modal melody. He arranged it for 3-part mixed voices and kept the modal appearance as well as the siciliana rhythm.
