Danza negraLuis Pales Matos was born in 1898. He is a great Porto Rican poet. He and Nicolas Guillen are founding members of Negrismo. “Danza Negra” (1926) is an extract from the collection “Seis Poemas.” It is an evocative and strong song set to music by Antonio Rincon. Onomatopoeias are very important and the arrangement echoes the underlying meaning of the poem which is both surrealist and playing with words and how they sound, more than with their meaning.
