 This composition was particularly noticed by the judging panel of composition competition organized by À Coeur Joie in partnership with French Ministry of Culture, in 2003. It won the 1st prize in Composition d’oeuvres a capella pour voix mixtes (unaccompanied mixed-voice music work composition) category. The music is difficult but beautiful. Benoît Amy de la Bretèque was born in 1954 in Carpentras. He studied music at Conservatoire de Montpellier and won a gold medal in harmony and other prizes. He was supervised by Jean Doué in notation, and it linked him to French artistic movement of mid 20th century (like Darius Milhaud and Charles Koechlin). He used to be a singer, but then he has become a speech pathologist and help people to treat voice troubles, to rehabilitate and practice their voice. He wrote two books about that topic. He conducted the Choeur Franco-Allemand de Montpellier for 13 years. He also wrote chamber music, a Christmas cantata, choral songs and arrangements. |
