Je suis RobertThe strophic structure of this song is similar to the structure “voix-de-ville” of the second half of the 16th century. The famous melody is sung by the superius in virelai. It was often used as a monody in the Manuscrit de Bayeux. That’s why the modal aspect is kept in the melody instead of the E flat usually used in the contemporary versions.

Marcel Corneloup had a sense of poetry and always chose beautiful texts to go with a perfect music match. “Je te l’ai dit” (“I Said It To You”) is an extract from “L’amour, la poésie” published by Éditions Gallimard. It begins with female equal voices and ends with Tenor and Bass with “Toute caresse, toute confiance se survivent” (“Every touch, every trust will always survive”) the sentence giving all its meaning to the poem. “L’amour est dans la fleur” is a three-part canon.
