Flor Peeters was born on July 4, 1903, in Tielen, Belgium. He studied at the Lemmensinstituut. He quickly became a renowned organ teacher. He taught at the Conservatoire Royal of Gand, at Roomskatholieke Leerlangen in Tilburg and at the Koninklijk Vlaams Conservatorium that he supervised from 1952 to 1968. Since 1958 he has taught how to play the organ in Boys Town, Nebraska. He also taught from 1968 to 1985 in St. Rumbold’s Cathedral. He composed many classical, polyrhythmic and polytonal works. After 1966 he mostly composed atonal and serial works.

This sheet music is extracted from The Song of Songs. This is a collection of poems written about love between a man and a woman, who also write about nature and other people. This is one of the most poetic books of the Bible. The author is unknown. Based on the great number of female characters, it could have been written by a woman. Some poems are based on Egyptian ones. The Song of Songs was first rejected because of its secular and erotic aspects. Vytautas Miškinis has a rather classical way of writing; the four homorhythmic male voices are split into four parts whereas alto and soprano voices are rather independent.
