This famous song coming from the hippie and protest period in America during the 60s, is associated to Marches for equality and civil rights and to big festivals of those years, like Woodstock. The origin is not certain, maybe gospel from the early 20th century. It was made famous by Joan Baez, Bob Dylan; Peter, Paul and Mary, and even by Bruce Springsteen. The flexible and moving melody and the universal lyrics were spread around the world. Roger Calmel made a simple arrangement which keeps the quiet and internal atmosphere of this piece.
