“Shchedryk” is a popular song from Ukraine (sung on Christmas Eve collections), which is massively famous in Russia and in Ukraine. The arrangement is simple, and was realized by a student’ choir at University of Kiev, in December 1916. It helped make Leontovych famous, and everybody acclaimed this arrangement. Mykola Dmytrovych Leontovych was an ethnomusicologist, a composer, a professor, and a conductor. He studied in the seminar of Stargorod and Kamenets-Podol’skiy. He also learned how to play the music mainly by himself. He was a part of the group of Gothic Chapel in Peterhof. In 1918, he began to teach at Lysenko Higher Institute of Music, in Kiev. His numerous contributions to arrangements of Ukrainian popular songs were his main work.
