Polyphonies latino-américaines 4

Discover Polyphonies Latino-Américaines Vol. 4, 9 a cappella polyphonies for mixed voices (from the 18th century to the present day), proposed by Néstor ZADOFF :

The fourth volume of the Latin American Polyphonies includes arrangements and original pieces, following the editorial line of the previous volumes.
Here we find easy works (Domine Jesu, Vidala Palomarqueña and La vicuñita) alongside more complex ones; some are even the most difficult of the whole collection (Dolor llanero, Volver, Capullito de alelí, Plantita de Alhelí).
The contents include easy pieces, others of medium difficulty and some more difficult ones, but which, in general, can be tackled by any type of choir.

Néstor ZADOFF tell us :

"It is very frequent in Latin-American popular music to encounter polymetry in ternary pieces where 3/4 phrases alternate (or even overlap) with 6/8.
This typical architecture poses problems for the conductor, and if we add the syncopations and off-beats all this requires a very deep individual work with the 4 desks.
The challenge is exciting! I propose - among the most elaborate - to start with the pieces that pose less difficulties (Vidala sola, Plantita de Alhelí).
There is also an additional complexity with the chromatic passages. These must be worked on with care (Vidala sola, Volver, Papa Baltazar, Capullito de alelí, Plantita de Alhelí).
Tango and Milonga are also present in this collection with Volver and Papa Baltazar.
There are also pieces with body percussion that give an ethnic look to the arrangements (La vicuñita, Plantita de Alhelí).
None of these constraints should stop my fellow conductors, as our task is exciting. And overcoming these technical difficulties will help our choirs progress well.
So let's get to work! "
(Néstor ZADOFF)
