The 6th book Pierre Attaingnant published in Paris was composed of 13 Magnificats mostly written for four male voices or more. This is an exception because this is a Magnificat “ad tres voces pares,” that is to say “three equal voices.” It is intended to be sung in alternatim. The six even verses are polyphonic and the six odd ones are plainsong. Jean de Billon is one of the few composers only known with their works. The only songs we know were published by Pierre Attaingnant between 1534 and 1556.
