This sheet music can be seen as a part of a trilogy with “Veni Creator spiritus” (ref. ACJ 5038), “Salve Regina” (ref. ACJ 5095) and “Prière du soir pour l’Angelus.” The Angelus is an old prayer of the 13th century that was first of all said in the evening, then on the morning and at noon in order to give rhythm to monasteries and parishes. It was created by alternating “Ave Maria” with the Gospel of Luke. The sheet music only used the first words of “Ave Maria” between the verses. The first two verses are like a dialog between female voices and male voices. After that, the choir sings the “Et Verbum caro factum est." (The Word was made flesh.) The final “Alleluia-Amen” represents the quiet night.
