| | | “Ma copine Gaïa” is a musical approach of ecological problems. The preface was written by Nicolas Hulot. This musical tale is composed of 6 songs intended to be sung in unison of by piano-and-two-vocals. The aim is to remind Earth’s children about loving her. There are a prologue, 6 scenes and an epilogue. Many children can play a part. That’s how the story begins: “Once upon a time, a long time ago, there was a land on Earth called ‘Pays Joli.’ Everything that grew, smelt, trotted around was named ‘Joli.’ So, the tender grass alongside the shadowed path was named ‘Jolie Herbette,’ and the cute flowers at the bottom of hazel trees were named ‘Jolie Fleurettes.’ The insects running on the dry-stone wall were named ‘Jolies Bébêtes.’ It was a beautiful country where everybody was happy. Gaïa lived with the Joli people. She was a sweet little girl who loved Nature and everyone who lived in this country. Nobody knew where did she came from, but the people thought she was so sweet and tender that they adored her like she was a goddess. The Pays Joli inhabitants lived happily for a very long time, but one day, the country was struck by woe; Kradox the Grand Pollueur came from the city and built his huge chemical factory “Kradox & Kradox Cie” within the Jolie Prairie.” Then, everybody fought and defeated Kradox. Here is an extract of the preface written by Nicolas Hulot: “Everybody is concerned now. On the planetary scale, the addition of our respective trash, our proper waste and our carelessness tends is too big for the natural balance.Dominique Baduel should be congratulated to convey this message in music, songs and comedy.”

This is a fable opera with only one act, written for children’s choirs of one, two and three voices, narrators, dance groups and also with instrumental ensembles or a lone piano. There is an opera genie, a judging panel composed of ducks, and heroes and villains: cats, foxes, frogs, goats, trouts… This is a magical parade.
