This tradional liturgical text is composed of two verses from the Old Testament and the New Testament. Renaissance and Baroque musicians like Gallus (ref. ACJ 6063), Claudio Monteverdi and Luca Marenzio set it to music. It was arranged for several sizes of choirs; from soloists to eight-voiced double choirs. Tomás Luis de Victoria arranged it for four equal voices. He divided it into two sections. The imitation style and the incredible softness of his harmonies highlight this melodic song.
