This instrumental sheet music was composed for cellos and pianos. It is based on Gabriel Fauré’s “Sicilienne” opus 78. It was firstly composed for a scene of an unfinished incidental music for “Le Bourgeois gentilhomme.” Then, it was included into the incidental music of “Pelléas et Mélisande” by Maurice Maeterlinck (1898).
It was arranged several times for various instrumental formations, but until this one, none of them were intended to be sung. This poem about love encounter between Pelléas and Mélisande was written with Gabriel Fauré’s music.
