Both text and melody are anonymous. This music was published in 1631 in a prayer book, and it is the first polyphony published in Latin America. It was probably sung during processions preceding masses. Waldemar Axel Roldan, who has made the restitution in modern writing, is head of the Instituto Nacional de Musicología Carlos Vega, Argentina.
