La bamba

(Code: A110603037)

“La Bamba” is a traditional Mexican tune coming from Veracruz State, East of Mexico. It is a traditional wedding song which lyrics improvised depending on the situation. There are countless versions, but the major part of them deals with a popular dance with those lyrics: “Para bailar la bamna se necesita una poca de gracia”, (Dancing la bamba requires of being graceful). The climax is when the red scarf of one dancer is thrown on the floor and gracefully knotted by his footwork. The grand finale is when the bow is thrown in the air. There is usually a competition between all the dancers to choose the one who knotted and threw the scarf the more gracefully. Jose Antonio Rinco´n is a leading figure of the choral art and teaching skills in Central and South America. He lives in Puebla, Mexico. He is a professor, a research worker, and a lecturer at Universidad de las Américas Puebla. He also gives concerts across the globe.
