| | This is one of the first sheet music Evann Loget-Raymond wrote. The soloists and the choir take turns to greet Virgin Mary. It is written in an ancient way with modes but also in a modern way because of the original new devices of writing. The melody represents the universal aspect of the prayer. Evann Loget-Raymond is a countertenor at the Académie Musicale Philippe Jaroussky. He studied at the Académie de Musique et d’Arts Sacrés de Sainte Anne d’Auray with Richard Quesnel who helped him with his compositions. He also studied at the Conservatoire de Paris, conducting with Marc Korovitch, and plainsong at the École de Grégorien de Paris supervised by Louis-Marie Vigne. He began to supervise the Vox 21 Project to lead artistic projects. The objective of Vox 21 project is to gather artists who want to bridge music and audience. He sang for the first time at La Seine Musicale in December 2017 invited by Philippe Jaroussky and Artaserse. |

| | This Salve Regina (Anne Mantaux) is written with simple but surprising harmonies. The rhythm follows the structure of the text. It shows lamentations, pain, adoration and hope. |

| | This is a strong work about piety for Virgin Mary. It ends softly with the Dorian mode. Jacob Obrecht was a productive musician but with an unstable character. He was unfortunately chosen to be the Kapellmaster in Ferrare after Josquin Desprez. But he died from an unprecedented plague epidemic soon after. He was often named in theoreticians’ tracts. Jacob Obrecht knew how to link rigor and melodic sensitivity. He wrote it in several verses alternatim; that is to say with plainsong and polyphony alternating. The sections sung by two or three voices, the independence of the voices and the structure based on long-sectioned altos plainsong shows the legacy of Franco-Flemish musical techniques. Jacob Obrecht used series of chords, and it provokes beautiful moments of worship. The last section is composed of harmonic pillars and lace-like melody. |

| | This “Salve Regina” was written with the Centre de Documentation pour l’Art Choral — Liaisons Arts Bourgogne at the same time as spirituals arrangements. This could explain why some parts of the beat and harmonies are similar to blues. This sheet music is short and easy. The 4 voices are simultaneous, and the text comprehension is easier. You should pay a close attention to words phrasing and stressing. |
