| |  Michel-Maurice Lévy (1883-1965) was born in Ville d’Avray. He was a conductor and a composer. He studied at the Conservatoire de Paris and then was a choir master and conductor in different theatres in Paris. He composed several works, e.g a Te Deum, melodies, operas arias and comic operas – including Psyché, Le Petit Navire, Dolorès, Moïse – operettas, a ballet and symphonic music. Georges Hacquard was married with Juliette Hacquard and he was the director of the “Ecole Alsacienne de Paris”. This singing “Notre Dame de la Joie”, was part of the “Petits Chanteurs à la Croix de bois’” repertoire when Monseigneur Maillet was the conductor.

| | |  The motet was composed for the Pentecost week and the text comes from the First Verpers of the Feast of Corpus Christi. This singing is for equal voices vocal ensembles with experiences. Pierre Villette was born in Duclair (France) in 1926. He studied at the Choir school of the Rouen Cathedral (1932-41) and at the superior conservatoire of Paris (1941-1949) supervised by the monks Jean and Noël Gallon, Henri Busser, Félix Passerone, Louis Fourestier and Norbert Dufourcq. In 1949 he won the Second Grand Prize of Rome for musical composition and become the director of the Conservatoire of Besançon (1957-1966) and Ais-en-Provence (1967-2000). Since 1977, he has been the honorary president of the National Association of Conservatoire’s managers. Besides his cantata, “La Résurrection de Lazare” (Competition of Rome in 1949), he composed many different works for different orchestral training, a mass and many motets for choir. So far, in November 1995, he finised his opus number 80, Panis Angelicum, his 18th motet. Pierre Villette, respecting the French tradition, tries to contribute to the heritage of his predecessors. He is against trends and groups so that he sets the stage using harmony and then some variations and orchestration. The rhythm sets the cadence of the music. Finally, the melody is a key element which is the base of the harmony to convey the author’s authentic though.
