Le roi a fait battre tambour" is an arrangement that was asked by Catherine Bolzinger for her vocal ensemble "Les Voix de Stras'." In this arrangement for women's choir I wanted to maintain the spirit of the popular song, of the traditional French song, and remain in a simple music while personifying each one of the verses to intensify the sense of the text. Le roi a fait battre tambour is thus an arrangement but more than that ... it is almost a new composition ...This is a work that I wanted very free as of interpretation. As in popular songs I intentionally wrote very few nuances, phrasings, tempi to give the ensemble and the conductor the opportunity to model his own interpretation of music.
